Ryan
by Cindy

It has been many years since I wrote “Ryan's Vitiligo.” Ryan is 17 years old now and a junior in high school. He has passed by several “teenager” milestones without blinking an eye. He has completed driver’s training, received his license and has his own car. Ryan entered the workforce last summer doing handwork at a plastics company. He has attended dances and is currently dating. He is busy with band, is the Leo Club President, and is tutoring math and science. Throughout his life, Ryan has maintained a carefree attitude which I truly believe will be with him forever. He has big plans for college and beyond.

Oddly enough, my youngest son has recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease other than Vitiligo. This has made me really contemplate whether or not there is a genetic link somewhere in our family. It's funny because Nathan has always wanted to have Vitiligo because he felt it made Ryan more special. Well, he didn't get Vitiligo but he did get Alopecia.

In the very scientific world we live in today I have every confidence a cure will be found very soon. I continue to pray for this as it is God who gives researchers the ability to make grand discoveries. I hope you’ll join me in praying for a cure.

Best Regards and God Bless You All!

Ryan’s Mother
