Hi, I am Michael. I am fifteen years old. I live in New Jersey. I discovered Vitiligo when I was 6 years old. Luckily, for me the only place on my body that had Vitiligo was my face. We visited the dermatologist 7 years ago and he said there is no possible treatment that could be done on my face. Having Vitiligo on my face, there was never a place I went when someone didn’t ask me “What was that white thing on my face?”
 
Three years ago, my mother was doing research on Vitiligo when she discovered the AVRF. That year we attended the conference and we learned many new things about Vitiligo that we didn’t know before. When we attended the conference, we learned about a new treatment. It was a laser treatment. After a year of doing this treatment, there was no significant change on my face. Although the laser treatment did not work on me, it didn’t really matter to me at that point. Even though I have Vitiligo, I have it on one spot on my body, while other kids have more numerous and larger spots than I do.
 
My family tries to attend most of the AVRF functions, while throwing one of our own each year. AVRF has taught me that I am not alone and it doesn’t matter if I have a spot on my body because I am perfect just the way I am.
